Our
sensational season opener features clarinetist Anthony
McGill and cellist Amit Peled, in chamber ensemble with new
artistic director, Lura Johnson. McGill, principal
clarinetist of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra, has been
awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant. Peled
has been described as a young Rostropovich and is enjoying
the release of several CD’s on the Centaur and CTM Classics
labels. Johnson is pianist of choice for the Baltimore
Symphony and many of its members. Don’t miss this
opportunity to hear, up close and personal, three of
Peabody’s newest and most exciting faculty members
performing Brahms Clarinet Trio, Chopin Cello Sonata, and
more.

Monarch Brass
Quintet
Kick off
the holiday season festivities with an afternoon of brass
quintet music. Members of this stellar quintet include
principal players from the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra,
the U.S. Army Field Band, and the University of Maryland
faculty. This dynamic and versatile ensemble will perform
standards from the literature, transcriptions and
arrangements by trumpet player and arranger extraordinaire
Phil Snedecor, and will conclude the program with joyous
music to celebrate the season.

Duo Transatlantique
Duo
Transatlantique combines the award winning talents of
guitarists Benjamin Beirs and Maud Laforest. The duo seeks
to promote Franco-American relations through an emphasis in
the music of these two musically prolific countries. They
have performed at the Kennedy Center, have just released
their debut album, and are excited to share their talents
on the stage of Music in the Great Hall in a program
featuring works by Erik Satie, Scott Joplin, and a suite of
Tangos by Astor Piazzola.

90th Birthday Celebration

Reinecke’s significance to Music in the Great Hall cannot
be understated. Founder of the series and its first
Artistic Director, this inspirational artist celebrates her
90th birthday with a return to the MIGH stage, joined by
colleagues Nicholas Currie, concertmaster of the
Mid-Atlantic Symphony, and prodigious Polish cellist Lukasz
Szyrner. The trio presents Ravel’s shimmering masterpiece,
the Piano Trio as well as works by Bach, Loeillet de Gant,
and Szymanowski.
